When a cyclone hits Kansas, Dorothy and her dog Toto are swept away in the farmhouse landing in the magical land of Oz - the farmhouse when it lands, inadvertently flattening the Wicked Witch of the East. They are greeted by Glinda the Good (a good witch) and little people called Munchkins. Dorothy is informed that the powerful Wizard of Oz will be able to send her back to Kansas. A greaser, on the other hand, always lives on the outside and needs to watch his back. One night, his friend Johnny kills a soc and the consequences of this action will affect Ponyboy forever. Other famous novels by SE Hinton were "Tex" and "Rumblefish". In 1983, Francis Ford Coppola directed a movie adaptation of "The Outsiders" which starred an absolutely mind-boggling array of big stars - most of them in their early days before they were famous. Johnny Cade was played by the Karate Kid's Ralph Macchio and Ponyboy Curtis was played by C. Thomas Howell. The other cast members included Matt Dillon as Dallas, Patrick Swayze, Rob Lowe as Sodapop Curtis, Emilio Estevez as Two-Bit Mathews, Tom Cruise as Randle and Diane Lane as Cherry Valance. SE Hinton herself even had a cameo in the movie as a nurse in Dallas' room.

- In You think you know somebody, Logan, Troy and Luke go to Tijuana, Mexico. It is a town located on the American/Mexican border and receives a steady stream of curious day-trippers from the US. Tijuana is notorious for being a 'sin city' with prostitution, sex shows, drugs and violence. Recently, attempts have been made to cleanup the town so that there is more of an emphasis on shopping, nightlife and entertainment. It claims to be the birthplace of the original Caesar salad and the margarita. It's unlikely that the boys were going there to practice their Spanish or to sample the Caesar salad.
